A partial Facebook outage affecting users around the world has stretched beyond 14 hours but was showing some signs of ending early Thursday. It’s believed to be the biggest interruption ever suffered by the social network.
Some customers of Facebook and other programs owned by the technology giant — such as Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp — reported occasional problems accessing the posting and services articles. In 12:41 a.m. ET, Instagram published a tweet that stated, “Anddddd… we are back” using a gif of Oprah Winfrey.
Rather than selfies and status updates, many Facebook users obtained a mistake message during the outage that stated:”Sorry, something went wrong. We are focusing on getting this repaired as quickly as we could.”
Individuals went on Twitter to vent their frustration regarding the issues.
Individuals used the labels to article memes concerning the outage, speculate about its own origin and trade strategies for how to endure without the organization’s apps. Twitter actually made the topic to a Twitter Moment.
“We are aware that some people are now having difficulty obtaining the Facebook household of programs. We are working to solve the matter as soon as you can,” Facebook tweeted about 2 p.m. ET.
That instant tweet was posted about 3 liters ET. Past Instagram’s tweet, Facebook has supplied no additional upgrades at the hours since then.
Around 17:00 GMT, 24 hours after the first reports, Facebook said it identified the technical problem and that the breakdown was being resorbed.
“Yesterday, due to a server configuration change, many people struggled to access our apps and services. We have now solved the problem and our systems are recovering. We are really sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience, “wrote Facebook on Twitter.
“We’re back!” Had tweeted the official account of Instagram, one of the platforms operated by the tech giant, on Twitter, Wednesday at 9:41 pm California time.
According to the Downdetector website, all Facebook platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger) saw difficulties appear around 17H00 GMT Wednesday before starting to resorb very gradually about six hours later.

At the same time, the social network had tweeted “aware” of the fact that “some users” had “problems” and promised to resolve them “as quickly as possible”.
The outage has affected Facebook’s services in various ways around the world.
At the opening of Wall Street Thursday, the title of the US giant fell by 2.5% before recovering. By 1700 GMT, it yielded 1.64%.
The breakdown is happy
The incident sparked many user feedback to the “real life”.
“Do you present this as the end of the world when you simply do not have access to Facebook? Have a real life rather than a digital life, “wrote Johanna on the Downdetector website.
“I predict a baby boom in nine months! Do you remember that day when Facebook planted and forced people to become aware of those around them? “Commented another, Palmina D’Allesandro.
On Twitter, the publications #facebookdown or #instagramdown abounded, with a half-weeping, half-ironic tone. “I put down my phone. I went to take the air and … it’s sucked INSTA come back quickly real life is bad, “tweeted one. “I am completely lost. Someone is explaining how to interact with people in real life, “pretended to lament another.
The failure has made people happy among the competitors of the social network: its competitor Twitter, but also the Russian encrypted messaging Telegram which would have gained three million users during the last 24 hours, according to its founder Pavel Durov.
For the group founded by Mark Zuckerberg, this failure could be the largest known so far. According to Facebook, it does not come from a denial of service attack (DDoS), which involves flooding a service of requests for connection, targeting its platforms to 2.3 billion users.
The incident arrives in a context already difficult for the giant, under the blow of a criminal investigation, launched by prosecutors in New York, around his sharing of personal data with other technological groups, according to the New York Times Wednesday evening.
A grand jury in New York has, according to the daily, officially demanded “at least two major phone manufacturers” to provide their information on this topic, which would involve hundreds of millions of users.
Facebook shares or has shared a lot of personal data with outside technology companies, including phone manufacturers, to make its services compatible with their operating systems, applications or sites. It does so through “partnerships” signed with these groups. Many of them are already no longer active, according to Facebook.
Contacted by AFP, Facebook said it was “known that federal investigations, including by the Ministry of Justice, were in progress” and that it “always” cooperated with investigators.
The group has been under constant criticism since the Cambridge Analytica (CA) scandal a year ago. Elected officials, regulators and investigators around the world are looking into whether Facebook has in any way hidden the details of its data-sharing practices.
